The words of Daniel 8:14 are spoken by Jesus to Gabriel. Gabriel and Jesus have a conversation, recorded in the 8th chapter of Daniel: |
- 13 Then I heard a holy angel speaking. [This is Jesus.] Another holy angel [This is Gabriel.] asked the first one [Jesus], "How long will the things in this vision last--the daily sacrifices, the turning away from God that brings destruction, the Temple being pulled down, and the army of heaven being walked on?"
- 14 The angel [Jesus] said to me [Gabriel], "This will happen for twenty-three hundred evenings and mornings. Then the holy place will be repaired."
Calvin and other have discerned that this holy one is Jesus, because the Hebrew word used here is "Palmoni." "Pal" means "wonderful" and "moni", the root of our word "money" means "number" or "counting." The older King James Bibles list in the margin as a translation for Palmoni, "the wonderful numberer" or "the numberer of secrets."
Jesus, who has the hairs on our heads numbered, who is the Logos, and thus the author of numbers, is certainly a "wonderful numberer." He is the master of all time, and time is always kept with numbers on calendars and clocks.
Jesus' number statement to Gabriel, the 2300 evening and morning reference, spoken as if two friends were simply in casual conversation, is, I would submit, the most grand and awesome prophetic time prophecy in the Bible.
I will not publish any more on it at this point other than to say it seems to refer to the time when God's probation for the human race has ended. Gabriel, who has just been shown scenes of the antichrist's persecution of true believers, is asking, "How long?" How long will evil rule? How long will God's humble people be stepped on? HOW LONG will this go on?
Notice Jesus does not say to Gabriel, "Do not ask questions like that."
He does not say, "That is not for you to know." He answers
Gabriel's question. The answer involves homework on our part, but homework, there is
every reason to believe, that will be paid off with some searching. At the right
time the searchers will have their query answered.
